WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH
This role is part of the Professional Development (PD) and Staffing Talent team in London, working collaboratively across a variety of Talent teams including HR, Training, PEG Staffing and PD Operations. This role will also engage closely on a day-to-day basis with our General Consulting population and the wider Consulting leadership team. There are opportunities to also work with colleagues across the wider EMEA region.

WHERE YOU’LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
The mission of this role is to support a high-performing, high-touch, and empathetic PD and Staffing Programme for our General Consulting population in London.
Teaming with the Cohort Lead, the Specialist will support the day-to-day Staffing & professional development of their specific Consultant population. The key focus of this role will be to allocate the right individuals to the right projects to meet business needs, whilst ensuring our commitment to the professional development and well-being of our Consultant population. In tandem, the Specialist will also own the end-to-end Professional Development cycle and the related activities for their consultants. The Specialist will be expected to support the inputs into all staffing & professional development tools and systems.
This role will be at the heart of the Bain London PD & Staffing engine. Therefore, rigorous attention to detail, and understanding of the consultant journey is vital.
Within this fast-paced, high-touch model, this role will be expected to proactively problem solve, whilst managing a variety of stakeholders and drive the drumbeat of our key PD & Staffing processes, including delivering ZD materials and nuanced comms daily.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Staffing
- This will require actively supporting the Cohort Lead with the daily/weekly staffing process to deliver these activities to a consistently high-quality, ZD, and efficient standard.
- This will include developing and maintaining relations with an allocated portion of the General Consulting population – demonstrating an in-depth understanding of their PD needs and case preferences - to ensure a holistic view of the population is shared.
- This will support the drafting of staffing recommendations and deliverables on a daily/weekly/monthly basis that align with the needs of the individual and the business, recognising where tradeoffs will need to be recommended to the Cohort Lead/Manager.
- Attend key Staffing and PD meetings weekly – staffing tradeoff and whiteboard and PEG rotation.
- Track Consultants with performance issues and suggest appropriate staffing solutions to the Cohort Lead.
- Support the Cohort Lead/Manager with in-lane staffing processes, tools & systems.
- New joiner staffing – including investment suggestions where appropriate
- Management of staffing process BAU – to ensure all data reflects reality – one version of truth.

Capacity & Pipeline Management
- Keeping Cohort Lead up to date with in-lane capacity movements to ensure inputs to BP&A team are correct
Recognise, Promote, Rewards and Develop
Co-owning and delivering the Promotions process and diligence for your specific consultants (2x per year) - keeping Cohort Lead updated as per agreed feedback timeline.
- Monitoring the talent pipeline and identifying potential candidates
- Carrying out diligence with leadership teams
- Conducting interviews with team members who have worked with the promotion candidates (if required)
- Creating a promotion fact base for each candidate
- Presenting recommendations to the promotions committee

Ensuring all consultants within the lane receive high-quality and timely
- Case reviews – including triggering, follow-ups, and quality checking

Support Cohort Lead with new hire integration/onboarding process, including
- Working with Recruiting, Training and HR to ensure a seamless onboarding including providing themes on successful hires and underperformers, ensuring implications are fed into future hiring processes.
- Preparing induction & SteerCo materials for each new hire.
General Consulting Population
- General support mechanism and confidant for Consultants
- Monitoring their specific development areas and tracking progress
- Identifying an individual's training needs
- Running the Performance Improvement process, tracking under-performers, and suggesting supportive processes if needed
- Identifying strong performers to determine fast tracking, including re-rates where applicable
Develop, Support and Care For
- Actively collaborate with the HR Business Partner for your cohort - building a strong partnership with the relevant contact, on matters such as absence management, performance issues, and other employee relations concerns.
- At the direction of the Cohort Lead or Senior Specialist, provide surge cover support to the wider staffing team
- The above duties are not an exhaustive list, and the individual in this role will also be expected to get involved in all other aspects of Staffing as required. This role description may be subject to change, depending on requirements within the business
ABOUT YOU
Essential qualifications
- An individual who has performed a similar role previously; or
- An individual who has demonstrated a strong track record in Talent at Bain and the right skills to succeed in this role; or
- Strong communications skills across the full range from senior stakeholders to most junior colleagues in both General Consulting and Business Functions
- Problem-solving skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Ability to act at cause and with empathy, whilst at all times demonstrating a strong sense of people
Desired qualifications
- An individual with relevant experience and a strong track record in Professional Development/Staffing/Recruitment/ management at scale, with a people-focused outlook; or
- Former Talent or professional services (e.g. consulting) individual, subsequent PD experience an advantage
